History of Freemasonry

Freemasonry in Serbia carries forward a tradition of enlightenment, moral refinement, and fraternal solidarity that reaches deep into the past. Through rises and falls, wars and periods of enforced silence, the idea of building a temple of humanity has endured thanks to the dedication of those who, one after another, carried the duty of Grand Master. This page traces that unbroken line of leadership, from the founding of the Grand Lodge “Yugoslavia” in 1919, through the dark years imposed by a totalitarian regime, to the 1990 restoration and today’s Grand National Lodge of Serbia, regular and recognized within the international Masonic family.
